TT Legacy Lap returns for 2025
Mass ride out is one to tell the grandkids about.
For many visitors, one of the great appeals of the Isle of Man TT Races is the fact that it’s held on public roads – roads we can ride around on ourselves once the racing has stopped.
And many of us do just that, putting in lap after lap (or redoing the iconic Mountain section over and over again) during TT fortnight. It’s a cool experience, but there’s also no doubt that it can be quite intimidating too, as you navigate the world’s most notorious race course surrounded by hundreds of fellow bikers and even facing oncoming traffic.
Thankfully there’s a more chilled out way to experience the TT course, with the Legacy Lap giving us all a chance to experience the 37.73-miles of hallowed asphalt at a more sedate pace, surrounded by like minded riders.
The Legacy Lap really is a run-what-you-brung kind of event, with diddy Honda step-thrus lining up on the starting grid alongside sidecars, trials bikes, high performance exotica and, well, anything that constitutes a motorcycle really!
First introduced back in 2015 as a tribute to popular racer Simon Andrews, the event has grown in size and strength over the years. The name, Legacy Lap, continues as it represents an opportunity for participants to remember and honour people and moments dear to them.
We love it because it’s an opportunity to be a participant at the Isle of Man TT Races, joining with likeminded spirits to celebrate the world’s most iconic motorcycle races by riding the legendary course on what is one of the biggest days of TT race week.
This year the Legacy Lap is set to take place on Sunday 1 June, assembling early in the morning and kicking off at 9.30am – when participants are encouraged to rev their engines for a minute long ‘Sound of Thunder’ before setting off on a controlled ride around the course.
To take part, riders need to register in advance. The sign-up point is at the Hailwood Centre, just behind the Grandstand, and it’s open from midday to 5pm every day from Monday 26 May to Saturday 31 May.
Riders receive a commemorative wristband, which adds to the memory of this bucket list ride out.
