TT set for Hollywood!
Megastars Pitt and Tatum combine for movie and docuseries
Motorsport docuseries and movies are a big deal right now. Drive to Survive, Rush and Ford v Ferrari (Le Mans ’66) have all been big hits with audiences around the world, and now two of Hollywood’s biggest stars are joining forces to bring the thrills of the Isle of Man TT Races to our screens.
Brad Pitt and Channing Tatum (we told you they were big…) are producing a film, which has been picked up by the Amazon MGM Studios, with Tatum also set to star in it.
Details of the project are still vague, with no title, synopsis or release date known. All we know is that it has been written by director Reid Carolin, in collaboration with Bryan Johnson and Jason Keller, who wrote the 2019 Le Mans based movie Ford v Ferrari, and that Tatum will feature in it.
But that’s not all. A four-part docuseries, shot during last year’s event, is also in production. It’s being made by the people behind Drive to Survive, the Amazon Prime series credited with introducing Formula One to a whole new audience.
There will be four 45 minute episodes, described as ‘(a) cinematic and character-driven exploration of the TT’ which we understand has levels of behind the scenes access never before seen.
Considering how intimate the 2011 film TT3D: Closer to the Edge was in following top racers like Guy Martin, Conor Cummins and Ian Hutchinson 15 years ago, it’s quite a claim and should lead to a deeper look at the characters behind the TT than we’ve ever seen before.
TT head honcho Paul Phillips is understandably excited about the project and offered a few words, saying: “The impact this is going to make on the TT cannot be overstated. We’re putting the event on a truly global stage and entering the next phase of our digital broadcast strategy. It’s a testament to the sport and the unique nature of the TT that we’re working alongside these world class partners.”
Exciting times for the TT. We can’t wait to watch it all from the comfort of our sofas!
