How to follow the 2024 Isle of Man TT Races

TV, online and even WhatsApp!

It’s time for the greatest show on earth, the Isle of Man TT Races, and you won’t want to miss a minute.

But with a week of practice, 10 races and a 37.73-mile course which takes most riders almost 20 minutes to cover, watching the TT is unlike any other motorcycle race you’ve ever experienced.

Even if you are trackside (and you should go some day, because the experience truly is magical) there are some ways to enhance your enjoyment of the racing. Here’s the Entire Cover guide to following the Isle of Man TT Races…

Radio

Sitting on the hedge, listening to the radio commentary is the classic way to watch the TT races. Local station Manx Radio transforms into Manx Radio TT and you can hear all the news and race commentaries through speakers at the popular viewing points, or through your own radio. They really go to town with the coverage and, through the wonders of the Internet, you can even listen to the stream wherever you are in the world. Visit the website for more information.

TT filming

Live timing

Live timing is popular in most forms of motorsport. It allows you to see the same kind of information pit crews see and whether you’re on the island, at home or at work (or anywhere really) you can log in to see who’s where on the course in real time. There are 36 timing points (almost one for each mile) so you can track your favourites around the course, to see what position they are in. It's available for desktop or mobile and is provided free by the TT organisers (though you do have to register for the service).

WhatsApp

A new innovation for TT 2024 is the TT Infoline.

It allows visitors, fans and residents receive real-time updates via WhatsApp.

The broadcast channel will offer one-way communication and will be used to share the latest qualifying and race schedules, road closure information as well as general event information.

With TT schedules often changing due to conditions, it should prove an invaluable tool. Follow the TT Infoline online.

TT interviewing

TT+

For the real can’t-miss-a-moment TT diehards, TT+ is a must.

Even as recently as a few years ago, the idea of a completely live broadcast of a motorcycle time trial taking place over a near 38-mile course would be implausible, but that’s exactly what TT+ is.

Sign up for free and you can watch many great interviews and features, or subscribe for £19.99 for the year and stream all races and qualifying sessions live. With 10 races alone, that’s under £2 a race. And you can go back and watch it again and again. Ain’t technology brilliant?

Davo with Cam

On the telly

Part of the increased interest in the TT in recent years has come as a result of the excellent TV coverage.

ITV4 broadcast nightly shows throughout TT fortnight, usually at 9pm, with some brilliant documentaries to whet your appetite during practice week and a daily highlights programme showing action and insight from that day’s racing. Even if you subscribe to TT+, the free-to-air ITV4 coverage brings something a bit different to the party by giving some more retrospective insight into the action.
